I received an email out of the blue this Christmas that reminded me of the importance of small things… even when you don’t realize it.

Almost a year ago now, I attended a business workshop in London.

It was a hot muggy day, the trains were running late, I had childcare issues before I left, and I arrived feeling more than a little frazzled.

Not only this but the majority of attendees at this workshop failed to turn up. So of the 12 expected, there were only two of us – myself and another attendee.

The promoter was clearly not expecting this. He had prepared a day of exercises and strategies aimed at 12 people… but he battled on valiantly regardless.

I attend many such events as part of my business education. Some events are brilliant, filled with ‘aha’ moments.
Others are ‘ok’ but nothing to shout about.

This workshop was of the latter variety – and to be honest, I had all but forgotten it.

Except… that nearly 12 months on, I received an email in my mail box from that other single attendee.

He was writing to thank me for the hug I gave him, and for helping to make a difference after a nightmare period in his life.

“Your words and the hugging gave me power to come through. You don´t have to understand this, but it helped me,” he said.

Unknown to me, this business owner was going through a huge trauma in his life.

I have to say he hid it well – I hadn’t a clue at the time.

But it struck me when I got his note how important warmth is… how smiles and hugs – listening – can make such a huge difference.

And yes, it’s the small things that count every single day… even at dull business workshops on sweltering days when you’d much rather be somewhere else.

Well, if you don’t have enough reasons to secure your financial freedom, here’s another one.

I was well and truly gob-smacked when I read this.

Here’s some research into retirement age and mortality by Dr Ephrem Cheng:

Age at Retirement Average Age at Death
49.9 86.0
51.2 85.3
52.5 84.6
53.8 83.9
55.1 83.2
56.4 82.5
57.2 81.4
58.3 80.0
59.2 78.5
60.1 76.8
61.0 74.5
62.1 71.8
63.1 69.3
64.1 67.9
65.2 66.8

What this research indicates is that people who retire at the age of 50, can expect to live until they are 86.
Whereas people who retire at the age of 65, can expect an average life span of 66.8 years.

The study was based on the number of pension cheques sent out to retirees of Boeing Aerospace.

An important conclusion of this study is that for every year someone works beyond age 55, they are likely to lose 2
years of life span on average.

Well and truly shocking isn't it? No wonder so many
Governments talk about raising the retirement age.. that would solve the pension crisis wouldn't it!!!!

From birth we are brainwashed to be part of a system that
leaves us so busy we don't have enough time (or money) to properly enjoy the one thing that truly matters - quality relationships with our friends and family.

All the more reason to buck the system and work towards securing your financial freedom.

Well, six weeks to go to The Millionaire Bootcamp for Women at Earls Court, London, and counting…

We’re buzzing here. Lots of behind-the-scenes activity ahead of the event.

Gill Fielding had her photo taken today as part of our PR campaign… apparently she was still wearing her false eyelashes this evening!

The Daily Express kindly sent out an entire fashion SWAT team for Gill, Maria (Davies) and myself so we could have our pictures taken for a feature about on The Women’s Page.

They wanted to interview just three women from the UK – and I’ve been told we may even get a banner for the event on the front page. How cool would that be? Hopefully it will mean that our message will reach lots of women who wouldn’t normally come along to entrepreneurial or wealth creation events.

A few weeks back, a very apologetic lady phoned me from The Daily Express saying: “We’ll be sending someone with dresses and shoes for you… as well as people for your hair and make-up. We hope you don’t mind – is that ok?”

Did I mind? Erm. As someone who usually wears joggers and a pony-tail, I was delighted. When an entire fashion team offers to sort out your wardrobe, shoes, hair, make-up AND lengthen your eyelashes, who’s complaining?

The downside, as my mother has pointed out, is that I now have an impossibly high standard to live up to!

Catch us in The Daily Express this week – we’re giving away 150 free tickets to readers to start our campaign off with a bang…

Get one if you can!
